Cougars Shine at Region Wrestling Meet
Piedmont Academy hosted its region wrestling meet this past Saturday and four team members finished as runner-up.
Patrick Meadows (113), Jayce Daniel (120), Boone Pope (126) and Michael Joseph (138) each were second in their respective weight class.
“The coaches are very proud of where this program is headed,” coach Nick Meadows said. “It was a great opportunity to host Westfield, who is the defending state champion. Our wrestlers battled hard given the competition.”
Meadows won his first tournament at 113 while Daniel earned a pin against the number one seed from Westfield.
Pope returned in a strong way after missing action for an injury. Joseph is peaking at the right time and is looking set to make a run at a state title, his coach said.
The GISA state wrestling tournament is set for today, Feb. 3 at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
