Hoyt Lavell Nelson

Hoyt Lavell Nelson, age 84, of Monticello passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at his residence.

Hoyt Nelson was born in Anniston, Ala. on May 7, 1937. His parents were the late Roscoe Roy Nelson and Ida Mae Nolen Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Lee Nelson, Sr.; brother, Willis Lee Nelson; and sister, Doris Jennings.

Hoyt served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Nelson Appliance Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Mableton, and an avid golfer.

Hoyt purchased land in Jasper County during the 1970’s and moved from Marietta permanently in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Meinsen Nelson of Monticello; daughter, Rita Nelson Smith of Marietta; son, Charles (Darlene) Nelson of Marietta; grandchildren, Barry Glass, David Nelson, Jr., Sunshine Richards and Julia Drake; many great-grandchildren; step-children, Julie Sanders, Renee (Karl) McCarthy and Leighann Hanson; three step-grandchildren; two step-great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Pastor Roger Burdette will officiate.
