Lady Hurricanes Soccer Has A Tough Week
After plenty of success on the soccer field this spring, the Jasper County-Monticello High School Lady Canes ran into a couple of road blocks in recent matches.
The team fell to Lamar County 6-1 last week at home as Becky Leigh Wilson scored the lone goal for Jasper County-Monticello. Kate Robinson made 15 saves in goal.
Lamar County scored three goals in the first and three more in the second.
“Lamar has a solid soccer program,” Lady Canes coach Angela Savage said. “It is evident on the field as they play. Each player is athletic and they are able to posses the ball with control and accuracy. In my opinion, they are the team to beat this year in the region.”
The boys fell to Lamar County 10-0.
Last Friday the Lady Canes were defeated by Bleckley County 8-1 on the road. Wilson once again scored the lone goal while Robinson made 14 saves.
“Once we figured out their playing strategy, we were able to limit the number of goals they had in the second half,” Savage said. “Unfortunately, the damage was done. We will be prepared the next time we play them.”
The boys were defeated by Bleckley County 7-1.
The Lady Canes (6-2, 2-2) will host Dodge County Friday at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity boys.
