Rev. Glenn Darrell Parrish

Rev. Glenn Darrell Parrish went to his eternal reward with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

Glenn was born on November 13, 1943 to Sheldon John and Marie Gertrude Parrish of Plymouth, WI. The third of five children, he grew up working on the family dairy farm until he joined the Air Force after his high school graduation.

He spent four years in the Air Force, stationed for two years in Okinawa, Japan and later at Moody Air Force base in Valdosta where he met the love of his life, Dianne Dove, whom he married in 1967. The newlyweds began life in Smyrna where Glenn worked at Lockheed.

They moved back to Valdosta where Glenn attended Valdosta State College and earned a business degree. They were active members of Forrest Street UMC, where Glenn served as choir director and worship leader. Glenn got a job with Southern Bell in Albany & they moved to Putney, GA, where they attended Putney UMC.

Glenn continued to serve as a choir director and worship leader. He was transferred to Atlanta and they worshiped for many years at Harmony Grove UMC in Lilburn, where he led worship, and served on various committees. Glenn took an early retirement from Bell South after 18 years and became the general manager of Kairos Communications.

Glenn was called into pastoral ministry at the age of 60 and began seminary at Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he received his Master of Divinity degree. He became an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and served as senior pastor at Center UMC in Hoschton and Oakwood UMC in Oakwood, before he retired in 2014.

After his retirement, Glenn and Dianne settled on Jackson Lake in Monticello, where they have enjoyed worshiping with their family at Monticello Baptist Church and Forest Hills UMC in Macon. Glenn loved Jesus and he loved people, especially his family. He blessed so many lives with his beautiful singing voice worshiping his loving God.

Glenn is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Dianne, his children: Tammy (Chuck) Humphries, Jon (Danna) Parrish, Matt (Kali) Parrish; his grandchildren: Hope, Mark, and Zachary Dickson, Cole and Kaleb Humphries, Shelby (Shamahd) Pennamon, Jacob and Jenna Parrish, Layla, Avery and Luke Parrish, and great-grandson, Shane Pennamon, his sisters: Carol (Ron) Lemke, Marilyn (Howie) Heiden, Jane (Ron) Hayek, in-laws: Phyllis Parrish, Tom (Debra) Dove, Gary (Vicki) Dove, David (Shelley) Curtis and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Norman Parrish, mother/father-in-law, Katherine and William Curtis, sister/brother-in-law: Kathie and Al Powers.

A celebration of life for Glenn will be held at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello, on Sunday, March 20 at 4 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 2p.m.—4p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monticello Baptist Church (www.mbcmonticello.org), Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Macon (ForestHillsMacon.com), or Outdoor Legacy Foundation (www.theoutdoorlegacy.com)
