James Hopson ‘Bud’ Turner

James Hopson “Bud” Turner, age 75, of Madison, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Madison.

Bud Turner was born in Shady Dale, to the late Mitchell Turner and Mary Lee Greenway Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Susie Lackey Turner; and stepson, Greg Holland.

Bud retired from Georgia Pacific Corporation. He worked for Tucker Motor Company and Champion Lumber Company for a number of years.

Bud was a member of Rutledge Baptist Church and attended Antioch Baptist Church in Godfrey.

Bud was a funny, hard working, loving man with a bold personality and a great cook. He didn’t like crowds, but always drew a crowd with his life stories that he could tell with such animation. He never met a stranger and if asked, all knew Bud!

Bud hunted with a rifle, caught snapping turtles and drove stick shift automobiles. Even after losing his arm to a hunting accident as a young man, he never played the “pity card”. He was determined to work hard and accomplish anything he set his mind to. He taught his children and grandchildren to laugh often, never take things for granted, make the most of what you have and be thankful for what you’ve been given.

He is survived by his children, Priscilla (Myron) Lowe of Winder, Tonya (Paul) Paschal of Madison and James Kirk Turner of Bogart; grandchildren, Tommy Harvey, Trevon Harvey, Brittany Jones, Tiffany Hawk, Ethan Hawk, Amber Turner, Austin Turner and Kaitlyn Turner; great grandchildren, Linkin Harvey, Austin Duvall, Laney Duvall and Nadiyah Little; step-daughter, Sheila Holland of Monticello; step-grandchildren, Timber Edge, Mason Edge and Patrick Edge; sisters, Dorothy (Leroy) Wood of Shady Dale and Shirley (Mike) Hardy of Monticello; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Pastor Wayne Ghann and Rev. Ed Westbrook will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale.
