Historic Commission O.K.s Several Changes

The Monticello Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) met May 17,and approved several Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs).

The HPC approved the request of a new residential structure at 255 Madison Hwy. The permits are pending review by Planning & Zoning.

HPC also approved a request for the addition of front porch, with come modification, at 1116 Forsyth Street, and the addition of a porch/lean-to on the east side of the building at 361 Funderburg Drive.

The HPC also approved a request for demolition at 1046 Fred Smith Street.

HPC members also discussed investigating grants for owners of historic residential properties. More research is required. The HPC supports individuals or entities in their efforts to secure grants for the restoration and rehabilitation of qualified historic properties.

The HPC meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Monticello City Hall
