Mike Arnold Wins Contest

It was another tough week for the annual Monticello News football contest, with the tie-breaker being the determining factor. And it wasn’t just the tie-breaker!

Both Mike Arnold and David Wease correctly guessed the winners of 12 games listed in the contest, and they picked the exact same number of points to be scored—64. That left us in a quandary.

However, the rules say that if that happens (as it was bound to sometime), then the player who picked the winning team is the winner. Well, in last week’s contest, that lucky player was Mike Arnold, who guessed Tennessee would beat Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide of Alabama. And he was right!

David Wease still gets his name on the honor roll…and bragging rights for getting 12 right…but one of those 12 was not the tie-breaker game. Also getting 12 right, and missing the tie-breaker by more points, and therefore being added to the honor roll, are Cordy Batchelor, Nelson Cullum and Jan Gaston.

For his expertise, Mr. Arnold earned a $25 prize from Ashley Pruett at Heart Land Realty, sponsor of the week. Mr. Arnold’s wife, Janice, picked the prize up for him as he has been under the weather. Mrs. Pruett and Mrs. Arnold met on the Monticello Square, and right here to witness the event was none other than The Monticello News’ paper boy, George, our scarecrow that we’d love for you to vote for in the Chamber of Commerce’s scarecrow contest. George rides his bike to deliver The Monticello News. If you take a close look, you’ll notice he doesn’t get far on his flat tires. But he’s cute!

This week, players will get another opportunity to pick the winners of the 15 games listed as well as make a tie-breaker guess to possibly pick up a $25 prize from Ace of Monticello, sponsor of the week.
