Brian Joseph Hirsch
Brian Joseph Hirsch passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2022. At 67 years young, Brian succumbed to cancer and is now at eternal rest surrounded by family, friends, and pets that passed before him.
Brian will be forever loved and remembered as a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and, most of all, friend.
He was born on December 30, 1954, in Queens, N.Y. In 1963, his family moved to the Atlanta area. In his adolescent years, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, swimming, and camping trips with his family. Brian graduated from Chamblee High School in 1973 and continued on to attend Massey Junior College (Art Institute of Atlanta).
Brian married his childhood friend, Barbara Jean Clark, in November 1979, and they settled in Monticello. Together they raised miniature donkeys for many years and designed, built, and enjoyed a house from their imagination.
Throughout these years, Brian was employed at Georgia Power as a hydro and nuclear power plant operator, retiring in 2020 after 45 dedicated years.
As an adult, Brian had a passion for photography, taking photos for local events and school sports for The Monticello News. Also, he started his own wedding, portrait, and specialty photography business. Furthermore, Brian continued to enjoy camping, and spent many weekends in his Volkswagen Eurovan throughout the Southeast United States, especially the North Georgia Mountains. Through this hobby, he joined the Full Moon Bus Club and shared many memories around the campfires with his bus club family.
Brian was a proud father to his daughter Allison, and an equally proud grandfather to Astrid.
Brian was predeceased by his mother, Muriel Hirsch; maternal grandparents, Jim and Mabel Huddy; paternal grandparents, Herman and Josephine Hirsch; and his stepmother, Marilyn Hirsch.
Brian is survived by his wife, Barbara Hirsch of Monticello; daughter, Allison Ramos (Marc) of Bellevue, Nebraska; father, Joseph E. Hirsch of Dawsonville; mother-in-law Eleanor Clark of Watkinsville; sister, Susan Flynn (Brad) of New Cumberland, Pa.; granddaughter, Astrid Ramos; nieces Dawn and Lorilei Flynn; great niece and nephew Madilyn and Bradley Flynn; step-siblings, Krystin George (Christopher) and Steve Beebe; and other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. During this time, there will be the opportunity for individuals to share a memory of Brian if desired.
The family would ask in lieu of flowers to please consider making a donation in Brian’s name and memory to the charity of your choosing.
