Piedmont Wrestlers Win Region

The Piedmont Academy varsity wrestling team continues to make history this season.

The Mat Cougars earned the region championship last weekend with several wrestlers winning individual titles. Piedmont hosted the 2022-23 region tournament.

Individual placers for the Region 4 GIAA meet included:

•Scott Swann, 120, second

•Patrick Meadows, 126, second

•Dalton Wallace, 144, second

•Jamus Wingate, 165, second

•Jacob Betts, 106, third

•Trenton Jones, 190, third

•Eli Parker, 285, third

“We were able to put nine wrestlers in the finals with five champions,” said coach Nick Meadows. “Riverside was the unknown factor and had a very tough team. We are looking forward to state. If we wrestle well, we very well could be in the mix for the team title.”

The GIAA state wrestling tournament is Friday and Saturday at Georgia Southwestern University.
