Early Voting Starts February 27
Voters in Monticello and Jasper County will go to the polls on March 21 for a special election to name a Mayor of Monticello and to approve or disapprove extending the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
City of Monticello voters will have those two items on the ballot—mayor and SPLOST. All other Jasper County voters will just vote on the SPLOST.
Early voting for both elections will be held Monday, Feb. 27 through Friday, March 17, including Saturdays March 4 and 11. Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all through early voting.
Absentee ballots will be available soon for those who are unable to vote in person during the early voting period or on March 21 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Details on the SPLOST election are included in the legal notice on page 10. Mayoral candidate David Thompson’s announcement is in this week’s paper, and The News anticipates an announcement from DeAshley Crutchfield-Thurman for next week.
