Linda Nicholson Zmistowski

Linda Nicholson Zmistowski, age 71, of Monticello, died peacefully on February 22, 2023, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born on December 27, 1951, in Fitzgerald; daughter of H. F. & Phyllis Nicholson of Lake Worth, FL.

In 1970, Linda married her high school sweetheart Jerry Zmistowski, a loving marriage that lasted 52 years. Together, they lived in Germany when Jerry served in the U.S. Army and returned to Florida where they started their family. Linda devoted herself to raising their three daughters. When the family moved to Covington, Linda worked in the Newton County school system for over 20 years while supporting all of the activities and interests of their children.

In retirement, Linda and Jerry loved to travel, enjoying several trips to Europe and a vacation home in Florida.

Lovingly known as “Mimi”, Linda was the storybook grandmother to her beloved grandchildren–reading books, caring for newborns and teaching songs.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Jerry, and her daughters, Jamie Zmistowski of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Kathryn Wilder (Pelham) of Atlanta and Lauren Deck (Joshua) of Monticello. She is also survived by her brother Bob Nicholson of Jupiter, FL (niece Angie Woodham & nephew Bobby Nicholson). She is also survived by brother-in-laws Jeff Zmistowski (nephew Jeffery), Joel Zmistowski (Pam), Jonathan Zmistowski (Emma-Lee) and Lee Larkin; and sister-in-laws Faith Zmistowski Schullstrom and Sue Zmistowski (nephews Tyler & Noel) all of Lake Worth, FL.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Paisley and Easton Deck and Pelham, Larkin and Collier Wilder, who will treasure her memory.

The family will be performing a private service in South Florida at a later date.

In lieu of flowers: donations can be made in Linda’s name to Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center of Emory University.
