Diamond Cougars Earn First Victory

Piedmont Academy’s varsity baseball earned an impressive 13-1 victory against Central Georgia Arts on the road last Friday.

After taking a 2-1 advantage after the first inning, the Cougars added four more runs in the top of the second and four more in the third. Piedmont then pushed three runs across in the top of the fifth.

The Cougars had several players contribute offensively. Gavin McCart and Zach Simmons both drove in three runs while Chase Taylor, Mason Morris and Jamus Wingate each collected two RBI.

Alex Statham also drove in a run.

Wingate had two hits in the game. Simmons and Taylor both scored three runs while Statham scored twice.

Morris, Statham and Taylor each had stolen bases.

Piedmont (1-1) is set to host Rock Springs Christian Academy in its home opener for 2023 on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars will then host Central Fellowship on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The Cougars are competing in GIAA District 1 this spring.
