School Board Names Michelle Coward To Board

The Jasper County School Board at its regular meeting Tuesday named Michelle Coward to fill the District 5 vacancy on the board left by the resignation of Lewis Rice, who is unable to fulfill his duties for health reasons.

Ms. Coward currently serves on the Washington Park Elementary School School Governance Team (SGT), has a child in the system, and is familiar with the terminology used.

The vote for the appointment was three to one with Board Chair Bill Schilling making the motion which was seconded by Larry Wilson, Jr. Vice-Chairman Erin Lynch voted with them for the appointment. Towonder Dennis voted against the appointment.

Three people had been interviewed for the position, with Ms. Coward being the only applicant with a child in the school system.
