Diamond Cougars Earn Region Win

It took an extra inning to get the job done but the Piedmont Academy varsity baseball team put another region win in the record book last Friday.

The Diamond Cougars rallied for a 6-5 win against visiting Brentwood in eight innings. Piedmont trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when it managed to even the score.

No runs were scored by either team in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings. The Cougars scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Hudson Reed had two hits in the win with three runs and an RBI. Gavin McCart, Mason Morris, Zach Simmons and Chase Taylor also contributed offensively.

Reed and Simmons also had three stolen bases while Taylor had one.

Jamus Wingate worked three innings and recorded three strikeouts. Simmons then pitched the final five frames to earn the win with six strikeouts.

Piedmont stepped out of region play with a road game Tuesday against Stratford Academy in Macon. The host Eagles took a 6-1 win.

The game was tied at 1-1 after four innings before Stratford scored twice in the fifth and three more in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Piedmont will return to the field April 11 against region foe Westminster Christian on the road. The teams will meet again on April 14 in Monticello.
