New School Board Member Sworn

Michelle Coward was sworn in last week to begin serving on the Jasper County Board of Education.

Mrs. Coward was one of three candidates who interviewed for the position with the remaining four board members. Mrs. Coward lives in District 5, where the vacancy occurred. She has an 11-year-old son at Washington Park, as well as a 20-year-old daughter. She said her family moved to Jasper County for the schools. She served on the School Governance Team for WPES before being appointed to the board.

She will serve until the next election (spring 2024), when she’ll have to run to keep her seat. Then, she’ll have to run again. The opening was caused by the resignation of Lewis Rice for health reasons.
