Sallie Kate Sands

A celebration for life for Sallie Kate Sands, who died May 23, 2023 at Jasper Memorial Hospital, was held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monti- cello. Rev. Reginald E. Jacobs, Sr., pastor; Rev. Joseph L. Burney, eulogist.
Ms. Sands was born July 17, 1938 in Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Sands Sr., and mother, Annie Mae Sands. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Sammie James Sands, Bennie Sands, Jr., Joe Frank Sands and Earnest Sands, Sr.; one sister, Mary Lizzie Sands.
Affectionately known as “Sal” by family and friends, she attended Jasper County Training School. She went on to work at Bibb Manufacturing in Porterdale for many years. She enjoyed family, Sunday dinners; not only Sunday dinners, but cooking things like col- lards, turnips, and cracklin bread to name a few.
She loved her Atlanta Braves, listening to gospel music, and especially the TV broadcast Jimmy Swaggert. She loved to dip checkerberry snuff while doing a lot of things, such as planting her flowers and tending to them until her health began to de- cline. Sal traveled by car, truck, van, and even by a jumbo plane, but never a cruise ship. She would say, “that’s too much water to be in”.
Sal leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Patricia Myrick (Phillip),
Mary Clemons (Danny), Willie Jean Rivers (Chester) and Debbie Ann Sands (James); sisters, Eulady Johnson (Earley) and Christine Clemons (Tommy); a brother, Da- vid Sands of Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grand children, nine great-grand- children and two great- great-grandchildren. Also, a special niece, Barbara Ann Sands; special grandchildren, Shanquilla Driskell and Zy’Vion Watson. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Final arrangements entrusted to Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, Monticello, Ga. 31064; 706- 468-6625; smithfunhm@ bellsouth.net /www. smithandsonsfuneral- homemonticelloga.com
