Shady Dale Rodeo

The Shady Dale Rodeo attracted record crowds Friday and Saturday nights, with the gates actually being closed at 9 p.m., as there was no more room for spectators. However, some people who wanted to see the action just climbed the fence. The rodeo is sponsored by Jasper Lodge #50 F.&A.M. and Walton Lodge #200. The Masons announced the arena is being named the Merrill Clark arena in honor of the Mason who led the rodeo organization for the Masons for many years. In addition to the packed rodeo, a festival was held during the day Saturday, with a parade Saturday afternoon. The photo above right shows a float carrying cowboys in the parade, and below that shows the Shriners in their miniature cars having a little fun. The festival had children’s activities and several vendors offering their wares to festival-goers
