Henry Odom, Jr.

A celebration for life for Henry W. Odom, Jr. was held Friday, June 30, 2023 at St. James AME Church in Monticello.

Henry W. Odom, Jr. was born January 10, 1954, to the late Henry W. Odom, Sr. and Mrs. Katherine Smith Odom.
Mr. Odom graduated from Fort Valley State University with a degree in business. He was a Phi Beta Sigma. He worked for Bibb Manufacturing for a number of years before going back to school to get his masters degree in education. He was a retired educator for the Jasper County School System. Henry was also a bus driver, an avid flower gardener and a very good photographer. He loved St. James A.M.E. Church where he was steward pro tem, Bible School teacher, and Sunday School teacher. Henry sung in both the adult choir and male chorus.
Mr. Odom died June 25, 2023.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Sherry Odom; three children, Monica D. Odom, Tiffany N. Odom of Warner Robins, and Sha’Quayla N. Smith of Monticello; two step-children, Kemetria L. Bank (Rickey) of Covington, and Ardrecus R. Banks (Jermonica) of Eatonton. Also, two children of the heart, Elliot West of Warner Robins, and Waveka Bledsoe of Barnesville. Also, four grandchildren whom he loved dearly and they loved their grandpa Henry: Janequia Ellis (Chris) of Covington, Malyle Thurman, Malayha Thurman of Monticello, and Ziyan Reid of Eatonton; three great-grandchildren of Covington; four sisters: Mary E. Odom (Willie) of Monticello, Margie Powell of Atlanta, Janice O’bryan (Troy) of Lithia Springs, and Henrietta Carter (McArthur) of East Point; a brother, Dexter Odom (Madryn) of Montgomery, AL. Also surviving are an aunt, Lillie B. Standifer of Monticello; mother-in-law, Iva Card of Monticello; a brother-in-law, Percy Johnson; two aunts-in-law, Dorothy Johnson and Frances Jackson. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
