Special Election Set September 19

Two people have qualified for the special election to name a successor to Gerald Stunkel, District 4 Commissioner who resigned the end of last month.

The election is set for Tuesday, Sept. 19. A runoff would have been held on October 17, but won’t be necessary since there are only two contestants.

As of close of business Tuesday, two people had qualified for the seat—Asher Gray and James Edgar Vance. Mr. Gray qualified Monday and Mr. Vance qualified Tuesday. Qualifying ended at noon Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the city of Monticello has a regular election coming up in November. Qualifying for that election will take place next month.

Positions up for election include Mayor Pro-tem, and City Council Members District 1 and District 2.
