Hurricane Football Squads Preparing for the Fall

The Monticello Hurricane football squads have been in summer practices preparing for the 2023 fall schedule.

The varsity will begin their season with scrimmages for the first two weeks beginning August 4 and August 11 at Lamar County and Crawford County. The first regular season game for the varsity will travel to Walnut Grove High School on August 18.

The squad will be led by Head Coach Ashley Henderson during his sophomore coaching season in Monticello. The varsity squad finished the 2022 season 4-7 including a playoff bid after a winless 2021 season. The Canes will also face Pike, Morgan, Putnam, Lake Oconee, Mt. Zion, East Laurens, Social Circle, Prince Avenue, and Oglethorpe during the regular season.

Coach Henderson will be assisted by Defensive Coordinator J.R. Ragan, Offensive Coordinator Chris Bragg, Assistant Coaches Nash Bragg, Isaac Clayton, Emmett Clower, Steve Johnson, Kenny Moore, and Jordan Stone.

The junior varsity squad is scheduled to compete in seven games beginning with Ace Academy in Macon on August 24.

Meanwhile the Middle School Hurricanes will also play seven games leading up to the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship tournament in October. The youngest Hurricane squad is coached by Chad Estes.

Hurricane fans should get ready for football action to gear up once again and come out to support the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity teams
