Storms Knock Out Power to Many

WILLIAMS HOME ON FORSYTH ST

A massive thunderstorm came through Jasper County Monday evening causing several trees to collapse in resident’s properties. Various photos submitted by Nathaniel and Natarcia Williams, Jason Parr, and Will Parker show extensive damage throughout the county. This damage caused many in Jasper County to lose power. Data from Central Georgia EMC showed that 2,737 customers were left without power. The majority of the outages were reported from the Jackson Lake area all the way to Hwy 212. Outages were also reported on Hwy 83 in both directions, as well as homes near the Putnam County line. Many were a direct result of transformers being affected by the storm.

The city of Monticello reported around 200-250 outages, with the outages being reported as sporadic throughout the east and south sides of town. The cause of the outages were due to straight line wind, with the storm bringing down several trees. The outages were first reported at 6:30 p.m. with the last customer getting their power back at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

While city workers worked to get the power back on around town, deputies and fire/EMS workers were traveling throughout the county cutting trees, and helping wherever they could.
