Jenny Murphy Seeks Re-election

Jenny Hughes Murphy has qualified and will seek reelection for the Monticello City Council District 2, Post 2 seat in the November 7 election.

Mrs. Murphy is a long-time resident of Jasper County, having moved to Monticello when her parents, Bill and Chris Hughes, bought the local newspaper when she was in the sixth grade. She attended Jasper County public schools, and graduated from Jasper County Comprehensive High School. She also attended Georgia College in Milledgeville.

She has since lived in her house on Burney Drive for 20 years with her husband James. She has two adult children Elizabeth and Trevor.

Mrs. Murphy is the advertising manager for The Monticello News, a position she has held for many years. She has worked at the newspaper virtually all of her adult life, and is familiar with all aspects of the newspaper business.

Over the years she has been very active within the community. As a current council member she is on the 911 authority as well as the Board of Health. Ms. Murphy has experience and formed relationships all over town. She has worked with the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and has even served as a volunteer firefighter.

Mrs. Murphy is an advocate for local events and can often be seen at the Market on the Square this time of year and other city events.

Being a long time community member and a member of the council Mrs. Murphy has proven that she’s an advocate for the people. Her reputation proves that she is easily reachable, gives her time and values being a public servant. She openly listens to her constituents and voices their concerns and strives to represent them in a common-sense manner.

Mrs. Murphy believes that it is a great privilege to serve this community on City Council. She believes in this city and her goal is to make Monticello the best that it can be by thriving economically while still maintaining the small-town feel.

“It will be a great privilege to serve my community on City Council. I will continue to listen openly to the concerns of all our community members with the goal of building a better Monticello. I appreciate your support and your vote November 7,” said Mrs. Murphy.
