Player Notches Second Win

Lyle Weber now has two football contest wins under his belt this year. He won last week’s football contest with a correct total of 12 picks. Mr. Weber was one of two players to guess the winners of as many as 12 games out of 15 listed.
Mr. Weber is a faithful long-time player, submitting an entry every week, and making the honor roll each year.
With the win, he received a $25 prize from Dr. Drew Odegaard at Primary Care Center of Monticello, sponsor of the week.
Jared McCullough also correctly guessed the winner of 12 games listed, but he was further off on the tie-breaker than Mr. Weber.
Many of the week’s favorite teams were able to come up big, making the picks somewhat straight forward. With both local teams off in high school, Jackson and Putnam were on the card for the week. While Putnam County was able to extend its winning streak over Westside, Jackson fell to Douglass.
College football was the scene for some upsets this week, including Ole Miss and Bowling Green. In the NFL, all but one favored team were able to win, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers scoring the upset win over the New Orleans Saints.
Once again players of the football contest will have another chance to win the weekly prize. This week the $25 grand prize will come from MDHVAC, sponsor of the week. To enter this week’s contest send in your picks before Friday at 5 p.m. in person at The News office, 247 West Washington St., by fax at 706-468-6576, or by email at editor@themonticellonews.com. Winners will be notified on Monday, and we will try to take the picture the same day.
