Volley Cougars Win Region

Step by step, the Piedmont Academy volleyball program has progressed each season in its young existence.

The Volley Cougars set a new standard for their program with a 2023 region championship. Piedmont finished the regular season with a 7-1 mark in region and recorded 12 overall victories.

“Our volleyball program made a huge leap this year and it showed by winning region,” coach Michael Wilson said. “The girls fought from the summer on and improved daily. They have a bright future with a lot of young players.”

Wilson said the team learned to face adversity and battle through it.

“We are very proud of this group and of what the two seniors (Georgia Hale and Hailey McGinnis) did to help the program move forward,” the coach said.

The Volley Cougars fell in the opening round of state on Tuesday to Heritage Prep 22-25, 26-24, 25-20. 22-25 and 14-15.

“We fought hard at state and had our chances,” Wilson said. “ I think moving forward, it can be a learning experience.”
