JCMS & JCHS Cross Country Compete Well at First Local Meet

The first-ever home Cross Country meet was hosted at Jasper County High School last week in honor of the late Brooklyn Dalton.
The Brooklyn Dalton Dash was a successful first race thanks to the middle school and high school coaching staff, parent and community volunteers, and administration.
The middle school girls team placed second out of six teams, only falling short to one of the top teams in the state, Bleckley County, and only by 14 points.
Sofia Urteago-Marchenko placed third overall, and Addison Russell placed ninth overall. This is a true testament to how far this team has grown over the duration of this season, said Middle School Coach Ashley Clegg.
The boys team placed third out of six teams, with Tristan Campbell placing third overall, and Michael Lopez placing ninth overall. Adam Brimberry has helped lead the boys team this year with his positive attitude, hard work-ethic, and strong race finishes. He has placed in the top five for Jasper at every meet, and will prove valuable next year at the high school level.
The Canes middle school team has delivered numerous personal records at each and every meet, and will finish their season out strong at the Gryphon Gallop and Braves Invitational in the upcoming week.
The high school girls team was runner up to Oglethorpe County, falling short by 9 points. Four girls placed in the top 10, Colbie Ramsey finished 2nd place, followed by Ashley Mendoza 8th place, Chloe Key 9th place, and Sara Ellis 10th. Maesyn Hays finished 12th and Maritsa Martin finished 17th, completing the girls varsity team.
The varsity boys team placed first overall with 27 points. The top five finishers were Kemarion Thomas finishing 1st, Roswell Goolsby in 3rd, Arrington Bostic in 4th, Samuel Brimberry in 8th, and Aiden Bramlett finishing 11th overall.
The team came together at the conclusion of the race releasing balloons for Brooklyn, “who sent rays of sunshine through an overcast sky allowing her light to shine bright for all to see the glory of God on this very momentous occasion” said High School Coach Dorothy Dalton.
“I want to personally thank the community for coming out and sharing the love. We look forward to our next meet on October 7 at the Braves Invitational at Council Farms in Milledgeville,” Coach Dalton noted.
