Canes Split Region Action with Prince Avenue on Soccer Field

The Jasper County High School (JCHS) boys varsity soccer team took on Prince Avenue last Wednesday in their second region game of the season.

The Canes came out strong, scoring a penalty kick in the first five minutes thanks to Carson Clark. Senior Travis Teran then had a breakaway on the right side, and a shot from inside the 18, which put the Canes up 2-0 against the Wolverines. The Canes went into the half with a strong 2-0 lead. They then returned to the field, scoring two more goals in the first eight minutes with Clark scoring a great shot from outside the 18-box, followed by a penalty kick shot and made by Teran.

The Wolverines fought back and ended up scoring two more goals, but weren’t able to overtake the strong Canes, ending the game with a 4-2 win. The player of the game and goalie, Ricardo Sanchez-Hernandez, had numerous saves and led the Canes defensively. Julio Sanchez, Chris White, Antonio Martinez, and Lane Lackey ensured the Wolverines didn’t overtake the Canes’ lead, with a strong defensive back line.

The Canes took on Prince Avenue again last Friday with their third region game of the season. The Wolverines came out and took a quick 2-0 lead sending the Canes into the half for a mid-game discussion and formation modification with Coaches Clegg, Hays and Ramsey.

After making a few changes, the Canes came out and thanks to Senior Will Garvin, pulled a penalty kick which was shot and made by sophomore Clark. With a 2-1 game and 10 minutes left to play, the Canes and Wolverines battled fiercely. Unfortunately, the Canes were unable to tie the game to send them to overtime, which resulted in a region loss and 1-2 region record. They will take on Social Circle and Oglethorpe this week in two more region games at home.
