Wynona ‘Nona’ Calton Wilson
Wynona “Nona” Calton Wilson, age 98, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Hamilton Mill Senior Care in Dacula.
Nona was born in Camak, Ga. on October 2, 1925, to the late Maude Wilkerson Calton and Floyd Rankin Calton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Willie Eugene “Gene” Wilson, Jr. in 2005; daughter-in-law, Gladys Wilson, sister and brother, Frances Arnold and Fritz Calton.
Nona graduated from Women’s College of Georgia (Georgia College and University) in Milledgeville. She married Gene Wilson on September 7, 1947.
Nona lived in Stone Mountain for a number of years before moving to Monticello in 1974. She was an active member of Monticello First United Methodist Church, adult church choir and the WMU. She was also an active member in the Jasper County Pink Ladies, American Red Cross and a volunteer at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
She and Gene owned and operated The Plant Parlor on the square in Monticello for 17 years.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Eugene (Carol) Wilson of Blairsville and Floyd Steven Wilson of Monticello; grandchildren, Patrick Michael (Hilery) Wilson, Brandie Lynn Giroux (Kris) and Kenny Bridges (Sharon); and great-grandchildren, Adrien Wilson, Charlee Wilson, Preston Giroux, Evan Giroux, Aiden Giroux, Jaryd Bridges, Jaidyn Bridges and Jiordana Bridges.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church, 651 College Street. Interment will be in West View Cemetery. Revs. David Brackman and Ben Strength will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kris Giroux, Preston Giroux, Evan Giroux, Aiden Giroux, Patrick Wilson and Adrien Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., March 22, 2024, at Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro St, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello First United Methodist Church, 651 College Street, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
