Free Concert Planned

The Monticello Community Band will provide a free concert on Monday, May 27, in honor of Memorial Day. The event will take place at Thomas Persons Hall at 319 College Street and will feature special guest speakers from the American Legion Post 110.

The Monticello Community Band, composed of talented musicians from the region, has been providing high-quality performances for the community three times a year. The band is dedicated to promoting music education and supporting local students through scholarships.

“We are thrilled to offer this free concert as a tribute to those who have served our country,” said Jehan El-Jourbagy, executive director of the Monticello Community Band. “It’s an honor to collaborate with the American Legion Post 110 and to provide an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate this important day.”

The Memorial Day concert will showcase a diverse repertoire of patriotic music, jazz pieces, and popular tunes. Attendees can expect an engaging and entertaining performance suitable for all ages. The event will also include a picnic hosted by the Jasper County Historical Foundation. They will be selling hotdog plates for five dollars.

In addition to entertaining the community, the Monticello Community Band raises funds to cover operating expenses and provide scholarships to two graduating seniors each year who have played in the band for at least five concerts. These scholarships support the next generation of musicians and encourage them to pursue their passion for music.
