Election Results Are Posted
Jasperites will need to return to the polls on Tuesday, June 18, to decide who will be the Chief Magistrate for Jasper County after voting Tuesday did not result in a 50 percent plus one majority.
Chrissy Pitts Mason, who works in the Clerk of Court office and is challenging incumbent Tim Lam got the most votes with 1,055, followed closely by Mr. Lam with 973. John Henderson finished third with 268.
The only other race with three contenders was that of District 3 Commissioner, and Rob Alexander won that outright, garnering 459 votes to 109 for Chris Blakely and 101 for incumbent Don Jernigan.
District 1 Commissioner Shelia Pounds won handily over challenger David McGuire. Ms. Pounds received 258 votes and Mr. McGuire received 90.
District 5 Commissioner Steven Ledford had no challengers.
Incumbent Coroner Billy Norris fought off a challenge from his Deputy Coroner Tom Satterley, 1,265-478.
Other Constitutional officers were re-elected without opposition, including Sheriff Donnie Pope, Tax Commissioner Angela Walsh, Probate Judge Andrea Brown, Clerk of Courts LeeAnn Airington, and Surveyor Robert Jordan.
Local judges were also re-elected without opposition. They include Stephen A. Bradley, Alison T. Burleson, Terry N. Massey, Amanda S. Petty, and Brenda Trammell.
