Mrs. Mary Linda Braswell Jones

A celebration of life for Mrs. Mary Linda Braswell Jones was held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Holy Nation Church in Hillsboro. Bishop Patricia Standifer, pastor; Apostle Larry P. Warner, Eulogist; Pastor Jamillah Warner, officiating.

Mary Linda Braswell Jones, lovingly known as Linda, was born on March 25, 1949, in Round Oak. She passed away on July 25, 2024, in Newnan, surrounded by her beloved family.

Linda attended schools in Jones County, where she was active in many school groups and crowned the school queen in 1967. Her intelligence and drive led her to Los Angeles to attend flight attendant school.

After initially being hired to fly as a flight attendant, Linda decided to take a ground position because of the erratic schedules. She joined Western Airlines, which later merged with Delta Airlines. At Delta, Linda’s exceptional skills earned her the prestigious Chairman’s Club Award, an honor bestowed upon the top 100 employees out of nearly 100,000 worldwide.

Linda was a member of the inaugural 1997 class, the most challenging selection, and the only representative from Los Angeles. Her image still hangs at Delta Airlines’ general office in Atlanta.

Linda was deeply respected and loved by her colleagues, who often sought her help to resolve critical issues.

A world traveler, Linda visited almost 50 countries, with Egypt and Israel being her favorites due to her Christian faith and love for walking the places of the scriptures she read daily.

Linda was a devoted member of Holy Nation Church in Hillsboro, under the leadership of her mother, Overseer Rosa Mae Braswell. She was baptized at Holy Nation Church, solidifying her faith and commitment. Even while living in Los Angeles, she maintained her membership with the church.

Linda met Frederick Jones in January 1970 in Los Angeles, and their romance blossomed into marriage on July 24, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They spent 21 days honeymooning in Europe, traveling to England, France, Austria, Greece, Italy, and Spain.

In 1974, Linda and Fred were blessed with a daughter, Racquel L. Jones, born on July 1, 1974. A passionate sports fan, Linda adored the Lakers, held season tickets, and often traveled with the team for road games. Her friends affectionately called her “Laker Linda,” and purple became one of her favorite colors.

After retiring early, Linda moved back to Georgia to be closer to her family following her mother’s passing. She settled in New-nan, and joined Faith by Hearing Church, where she served as a greeter under Apostle Larry P. Warner, welcoming people with warmth and kindness. Linda also cherished her time visiting senior citizens in Los Angeles, reading the Bible to them, and offering companionship.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was overjoyed to see her daughter Racquel graduate from Southern University and be present for the births of her grandchildren, Kingston and Kamora. Linda delighted in cooking Friday night family dinners and sharing precious moments with her family.

Later in life, Linda faced health challenges with strength and resilience. She fought bravely for several years but passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, one day after celebrating her 53rd wedding anniversary with Frederick. At her bedside were her husband, daughter Racquel, and grandchildren Kingston and Kamora, with Frederick holding her hand as she took her final breath.

Linda’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her family and friends will forever remember her laughter, warmth, and the profound impact she had on their lives.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother Rosa Mae Braswell, father Jessie James Braswell, brother Albert Braswell, and sisters Jesse Mae Braswell, Christine Braswell, Bernice Braswell, and Leah Braswell Dumas.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Frederick Jones, daughter Racquel Jones, grandchildren Kingston Bennett and Kamora Bennett, brothers Early Braswell, James Braswell, Joseph Braswell, Donnie Braswell (April), and sisters Patricia Braswell Standifer (Darnell), Connie Braswell Gray (Eddie), Deborah Braswell, and Gwen Braswell Davis, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
