Cross Country Previews State Track

By ASHLEY CLEGG

The Jasper County High School Cross-Country teams took the two-hour trek last weekend to Carrollton, where they previewed the state course in the 2024 Carrollton Invitational.

Notoriously known for its numerous steep hills and challenging terrain, the course is no easy feat to maneuver. With over 30 teams in the 1A, 2A, and 3A small girls and boys races, the Canes battled the hills in the 5k and took notes on what they will hopefully see at the end of this season, or in years to come if they qualify for the state championships.

Senior and team leader Chloe Key, who is no stranger to the course, earned her lifetime PR with a time of 25:37:64 and placed 87 out of 190 runners in the 1-3A championship race.

The boys varsity team was led by Aiden Bramlett, with a time of 20:35:74 (his fastest on this course to date) followed by Powell Goolsby, Samuel Brimberry, Francisco Lopez and brother Michael Lopez, who all competed in the 1-3A boys championship race.

The JV girls race was led by freshman Kiley Robinson, followed by teammates Allison Gonzalez, Hailey Hamblin, Rocio Sanchez-Hernandez, and Paylin Stanley.

In the JV boys race, Jovanny Olguin led the pack for the Canes with a course personal record time of 23:39, followed by teammates Daniel Urteaga, Ender Tennyson, Zach Garvin (who had a season personal record on the course), and Mikey Harbin.

The JCHS Canes are led by Ashley Clegg, Karen Hays, Ryan Warnock, Jessica Tennyson, Luis Urteaga, and team manager Reigha Tennyson.
