Youngster Gets 13 Right in Tough Week
The third week of the Monticello News football contest proved to be difficult for many players…especially when it came to the professional games.
Elliana Yoder missed only two games in the contest, correctly guessing the winners of 13 games listed. She only missed Piedmont’s win over Loganville and the New Orleans Saints defeat of the Dallas Cowboys. Lots of contest players had faith in the Cowboys.
For her effort, the seventh grader picked up a $25 prize from Jesse Burton at Lake Country Tractor, at the corner of Hwys. 212 and 16 east. This is Miss Yoder’s first time winning, although she has played the contest previously…some last year, and the previous two weeks this year. She, along with her brothers and sister, now play each week, said their father, Brian Yoder. Every other player missed at last three games to only get 12 right, which is enough to make the honor roll, but not enough to win. So Elliana and eight others had their names added to the grand prize honor roll for a chance at four premium tickets to the Chick-fil-Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
This week, there’s a new contest, with five each high school, college and pro games for players to pick the winners of. You can fill out the entry form on page 11 or write it on a separate piece of paper. But, however you choose to enter, your entry must be at The News office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday. Entries needs names and phone numbers, and need to be written legibly. They may be submitted by fax to 706-468-6576, by email to editor@themonticellonews.com or in person at 247 West Washington Street.
