Lady Cougars Earn Win Monday

Piedmont Academy’s softball team took a 5-1 road win against First Presbyterian Monday in region play.

The Lady Cougars (15-3, 7-3) are nearing the end of the regular season and will look to once again make a run at a state title in the postseason.

In Monday’s win Teagan Hinson had three hits with a run and RBI and Shaniyah Lane had two hits, including a double, and two runs. Lilly Stowe had a hit and a run while MacKenzie Plunkett drove in two runs.

Marissa Holder was 1-for-3 with a run while Kylee Keck drove in a run.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when First Presbyterian pushed a run across. Piedmont got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with four runs and then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh,

Hinson had two stolen bases Monday while Holder and Peyton Whitfield both had one.

Plunkett earned the win and recorded seven strikeouts.

The Lady Cougars are scheduled to close out the regular season today, Oct. 10, at George Walton Academy in Monroe beginning at 4:30 p.m. The GWA Lady Dogs have won their regular season region title and are currently 20-4 overall.

“We are playing pretty well right now,” coach Joe Johnson said. “We have faced some good teams the last couple of weeks. We definitely have room to improve. The coaches and players are working hard trying to close out the regular season with more wins.”
