Cougars Earn Win On Homecoming

The Piedmont Academy football team needed a region win last Friday.

In the end, the Cougars got that needed victory on homecoming with a 34-6 win against visiting Riverside Military Academy. Piedmont improved to 3-2 in region play (6-2 overall.)

“It was a good night,” Coach Clint Satterfield said. “Anytime you can play in front of a large crowd like that for Homecoming and make some big plays then it ends up being a great atmosphere.”

Hunter Cleveland was 9-of-17 through the air for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Barman caught three passes for 77 yards and a score while Mason Tumlin had five receptions for 63 yards and a score.

Camden Moss also made three catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Corbett Crews had a 15-yard reception.

Kooper Pounds also saw time at quarterback going 3-for-3 for 43 yards and a score.

Tumlin led the team in rushing yardage with 41 with two additional scores. Daniel Joseph added 25 yards on the ground while Hunter Thomason totaled 18.

It was also a big defensive night for several Cougars. Joseph made six solo tackles and two assists while Gabe Moore recorded four solo tackles, three tackles for a loss and two assists.

Crews finished with three solo stops, two assists and a tackle for loss with Silas Cowan adding two solo stops, two assists and two tackles for loss.

Noah Doolittle (two solo tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack), Dylan Brimberry (two solo stops, one assist), Moss (two solo), Ty McVey (two solo, one assist, one tackle for loss) and Kohen Burrell (one solo, one assist) all added to the strong defensive performance.

Piedmont was back to work this week with a huge challenge awaiting this Friday as the Cougars venture to undefeated Bethlehem Christian Academy.

“We will have a big road test this week as we play a top-ranked opponent on the road,” Satterfield said. “They have really been strong on defense.”

The Knights are 5-0 in region play and 5-0 overall. BCA has not allowed a point in its last five games and have allowed just 34 points all season.

Senior quarterback Coy Buckner has passed for 866 yards in 2024 with Zeke Clanton rushing for 1,141 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Senior Tristan Puckett is the team’s leading receiver with 310 yards and six scores.

Kickoff in Bethlehem is at 7:30 p.m.
