Elections Board Adopts Bylaws
The Jasper County Probate Court provided The News office a copy of bylaws adopted by the Jasper County Board of Elections. The board had a meeting scheduled, then cancelled it, and never announced another date or time, but apparently met as bylaws have been drawn up.
Members of the board are David McGuire, Guy Tucker and Mark Logan. Mr. Tucker is the chairman, and Mr. Logan is vice-chair. Kerri Moseley serves as secretary.
The bylaws outline when the board was formed the mission, which is to ensure that elections are free, impartial, transparent, accurate, and conducted with strict adherence to all current Federal, State, and Local laws as well as to State election board rules. Two members constitute a quorum and can legally conduct business of the board.
Board members serve four-year terms. It does say they will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. and said is such change shall be advertised in accordance with the Georgia Open Meetings Law. It says the public and news media will be notified of any meeting.
The board will be authorized to appoint an elections supervisor, and the board will employ whatever staff is necessary.
The mission of the Jasper County Election Board is to ensure that elections are free, impartial, transparent and accurate and conducted with strict adherence to all current Federal, State and Local laws as well as to State Election Board Rules. The goal of the elections board is to register eligible citizens of Jasper County Georgia to vote and to encourage voter participation.
The board is working on a job description to advertise for an elections supervisor.
