Lady Canes End Season In State Playoffs
After a regular season of peaks and valleys comparable to the Rocky Mountains and Death Valley, (and the excitement of a region playoff loss to Lamar County similar to the “Sid Slid” Braves game in 1992), the Monticello softball program found itself ranked 31st of 32 teams for state, according to the new GHSA post-season ranking formula.
That being said, the Lady Canes took to the road for the first round of the playoffs, traveling up the interstate to Chickamauga to take on the Gordon Lee Lady Trojans.
Gordon Lee came into the playoffs as the #2 overall seed in Class A, Division 1, running up a record of 25-3 overall, and garnering their 22nd consecutive region championship.
Although the ladies from Monticello put up a valiant fight against such a highly regarded opponent, it was not meant to be as the Lady Canes fell in both games by scores of 8-0.
Bright spots for the Lady Canes were freshman Kam Davis, who in both games, went 2/5 combined with a double and a stolen base to her credit.
Junior Haven Cannon picked up the other Monticello base knock of the day, and finished 1/3 at the plate for the day.
The Lady Canes coaches would like to thank the four seniors in the program, Madelyn Taylor, Kyla King, Rarlie Moore, and Hailey Roper, for their hard work and dedication to the Lady Hurricane softball program.
