Benson Skinner, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benson Skinner Jr. of Locust Grove, a beloved father, grandfather, and proud Marine, who left us peacefully in the morning on October 30, 2024 at the age of 82. Benson’s life was a testament to his family and friends, the outdoors, IUEC Local 32, and The Marines.

Born near Atlanta, Benson grew up with a love for the great outdoors with his Uncle Jr., grandfather and brothers. After serving his country as a dedicated member of the Untied Stated Marine Corps, he returned home with values of courage, honor, and commitment that he carried throughout his life. Benson then joined IUEC 3 and the elevator industry where he made his career.

Benson was a devoted father to his two surviving children, Michael Benson and wife, Lori, of Bristol, Va. and Kimberly of Clanton, Ala., who were the pride and joy of his life; also his brothers, Keith and Kenny. He instilled in his kids a love for nature, teaching them the joys of hunting, fishing, and camping which are cherished family traditions. He was often at his hunting club with his lifelong friend since high school Mike Moscardelli and Cliff McGouirk. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Beth, Megan, David, Ruth, Katelyn, Walker, and Lainey Jo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, mother, Louise Reeves, father, Benson Skinner, stepfather James Reeves, and brother Michael Reeves. In lieu of flowers, go fishing!

A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Father Joe Kochuparampil will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home prior to the service on Friday, Nov. 8, .
