Cougars to Begin New Season With New Coach
Piedmont Academy is looking to jump start its boys basketball program and has turned to Christian Palmer as the new varsity coach.
Palmer was a three-sport athlete at Stratford Academy in football, basketball and track.
After graduating high school, Palmer went on to play basketball on scholarship for Georgia Southwestern State University before transferring to Georgia College and State University (GSCU).At GSCU, Palmer served as an assistant coach for varsity football and basketball at Brentwood Academy, where he contributed to a state championship appearance in football and a Final Four appearance in basketball.
“We feel fortunate to be able to get Christian,” Piedmont Athletic Director Danny Camp said. “Several other schools were interested in him. We believe we have a great young coach who is going to help take our boys basketball program to a higher level.”Palmer assisted with Piedmont’s football program this fall and jumped into basketball once play was complete on the gridiron.
Camp said Palmer’s youth will be a benefit in relating to the players.The Cougars open the 2024-25 season Tuesday at Central Fellowship in Macon at 7:30 p.m. Piedmont will then travel to Augusta Prep on Nov. 22 for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
