Trials Set in Magistrate Court
Jasper County Magistrate Court conducted December criminal and civil trials last week, the last session under current Judge Tim Lam.
Only one criminal case was ruled upon—State of Georgia versus Thomas Burrell for a bad check citation/deposit account fraud. A warrant is to be issued by Judge Danyale Hardwick.
Four other cases were set for trial on January 10, 2025.
•State of Georgia vs. Michel Wayne Bellamy for disorderly conduct/criminal trespass. A not guilty plea was entered.
•State of Georgia vs. James Thomas Travis for violation of international property maintenance code (exterior structure and sanitation). A not guilty plea was entered.
•State of Georgia vs. Joseph Samuel Spence for unlawful junk on residential property and violation of international property maintenance code (exterior sanitation).
•State of Georgia vs. Darren Nicholas Covington for disorderly conduct/fighting words.
Civil cases include:
•Lillie Gotel vs. J.R. Cantrell in suit for money owed. Continued until December 20.
•Renita and Douglas Murchison vs. Lashley Custom Cabinets in suit for money owed. Plaintiff’s claim in favor of defendant and counterclaim in favor of plaintiff.
