4-H’ers Enjoy Junior Conference
Jasper County was represented by six outstanding 4-H’ers in the seventh and eighth grades at the annual Junior Conference that was held last month at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center near Eatonton. Just over 700 middle school 4-H’ers were in attendance from across the state.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Get Wild with Georgia 4-H.” Over the weekend, the 4-H’ers attended workshops, assemblies, and a number of recreational activities including a fun dance and completed several service projects. They also got to see a performance by the Georgia 4-H performing arts group “Clovers & Company.” It was especially exciting to watch this year’s performance since Jasper County 4-H’er Addison Cagle is a new cast member and one of the featured dancers.
Those who attended include (pictured left to right) Jameson Carter, Riley Perdue, Zoey Antonio, Canyon Stewart, Addison Cagle, and Madison Price. They were accompanied by 4-H Agent Kasey Hall.
Jasper County’s two representatives on the Northeast District Junior Board of Directors, Addison Cagle and Madison Price, participated in various leadership roles over the weekend including their speaking parts during the district assembly.
Junior Conference is the annual event where county 4-H programs statewide turn in their can tab collections for the year to benefit one of the Ronald McDonald Houses in Georgia. Again this year, they were encouraged to take their aluminum tabs to a recycler and then bring the check from the sales to Rock Eagle to be collected. The proceeds are donated each year to a designated Ronald McDonald House to assist with their operating costs as they serve families in need of a “home away from home” who need to be close to children who are being treated in nearby hospitals.
Now that Jasper County 4-H’s huge box at our office is nearly empty again after having a big collection this year, we are gladly accepting can tabs from those in the community who would like to help us with this worthwhile project. We collect the tabs from all aluminum drink cans as well as those larger tabs that can be found on canned foods. Donations of any size are appreciated.
