Cougars Earn Win in Tournament
Piedmont Academy’s varsity boys basketball team earned its second win of the season defeating Trinity 53-45 on Saturday.
The game was part of the Larry Prestridge Classic hosted by John Milledge Academy Friday and Saturday.
“John Milledge does a great job hosting this event and brought some really good teams,” said Piedmont Coach Christian Palmer. “Friday we played First Preparatory Christian Academy who is ranked number two in Class A. I think our guys would agree that it was not our best showing and it was a gut checking game that showed us what we need to improve on moving forward.”
After falling 94-35 on Friday, the Cougars bounced back on Saturday with a win.
“What I was most excited about was the quick turnaround that we had to Saturday’s game against Trinity Christian,” Palmer said. “Our guys showed tremendous toughness to bounce back and compete the way they did Saturday after a big loss on Friday.”
Senior Chase Taylor led the way with 20 points along with 10 rebounds and three assists in Saturday’s win. Sophomore Corbett Crews had another big night with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
“While those two lead us in the box score, it truly was a team effort to rally back together and get a much-needed win,” Palmer said. “We look forward to competing in Brentwood’s Christmas tournament against Robert Toombs Academy on Friday and Edmund Burke Academy on Saturday.”
