Julius Oscar Funderburke

Julius Oscar Funderburke, age 94, of Monticello passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at his residence.

Julius Funderburke was born in Monticello, Ga. on May 28, 1930, to the late William Oscar Funderburke and Willie Mae McMullen Funderburke. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County and a graduate of Monticello High School. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Julius married the late Annie Ruth Maynard Funderburke on June 23, 1956.

Julius Funderburke retired from the Warner Robins Air Force Base as an aircraft electrician. After retirement, he worked in maintenance for Piedmont Academy for over 30 years. He was a deacon and active member of New Rocky Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed collecting coins and was a true servant of God.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jack Couch and brother, Charles Edgar Funderburke.

He is survived by his children, Judy Couch of Forsyth and Bill (Paula) Funderburke of Lawrenceville; nephew, Larry Neal Moore (Linda) of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Kathy Mercer, Carrie (Troy) Cannon, Marshall Joy (Ryan) Gordon, Daniel (Lindsey) Couch, Wayland Couch, William (Alana) Funderburke and Tina Couch; great-grandchildren, Andrew Couch, Zoey Dean, Ella Mercer, Addy Mercer, Austin Bowman, Kora Barnes, Cheyenne Gray, Ayden Couch, Grace Gordon, Adelaide Gordon, Theo Funderburke, Ansley Funderburke and Remington Couch; and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Hebron Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Randal Reese and Pastor John Strickland.

The family will gather at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, Jan. 4, 2024, prior to the service at Hebron Cemetery.
