Cougars Continue to Improve
Step by step, the Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team has been showing steady signs of improvement this season.
The Cougars won two more times in a back-to-back series with St. George’s last Thursday and again on Monday. Piedmont took a 63-43 win at home Jan. 9 before winning 77-58 three days later on the road.
“I am very proud of the guys for winning back-to-back games,” Coach Christian Palmer said. “It ended up with us playing the same team back-to-back. This can be a tough spot to be in after winning the first time because complacency creeps in. However, the players did a great job overcoming that and came away with two big wins.”
In the first matchup, a 21-point performance from Chase Taylor helped lead Piedmont to victory. Taylor had eight field goals, one 3-pointer and was 2-of-2 from the line. Taylor also had four rebounds.
Camden Moss also turned in a strong performance with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Corbett Crews finished in double digits with 10 points and six rebounds. His coach said Crews was a difference maker on the defensive end of the court with several blocks.
The Taylor, Moss and Crews trio also helped lead the way in the second contest against St. George’s.
In Monday’s game, Taylor scored 25 points with Moss adding 20 and Crews finishing with 16.
“Senior Ethan Barman was also a key in the victory, adding a lot of energy and effort on the court,” Palmer said.
The Cougars returned to the court Tuesday of this week against region foe Stratford Academy.
The Eagles entered the game 13-4 but narrowly took a 48-38 win. Piedmont is now 4-12 overall.
Piedmont will return to the court Friday at John Milledge Academy and Tuesday at First Presbyterian. Both games are region contests and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
