Business & Citizen of the Year Nominees Announced
Each year, the Business and Citizen of the Year contest is hosted by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. The deadline for nominations was December 31. Eleven citizens and three businesses were nominated for these awards.
Four citizens were featured in these pages last week, and two more are included today, along with a business. The COC has provided a synopsis of each nomination.
The winners will be announced at the COC annual dinner on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.
The first business nominee highlighted is Bulldog Gym.
Bulldog Gym in Monticello stands out as a beacon of health, fitness, and community engagement, making it a deserving nominee for Business of the Year. Citizen of the Year:
Brenda Driskell Norris is a shining example of dedication and community spirit, making her an outstanding nominee for Citizen of the Year. With a profound love for documenting the achievements of children in the Jasper County Charter System, Brenda utilizes her exceptional gift as a photographer and videographer to capture and celebrate their successes. Her work not only highlights the talents and hard work of students but also fosters a sense of pride within the community. By showcasing these inspiring moments, Brenda helps to strengthen connections among families, educators, and local residents. Her unwavering commitment to uplifting the youth and creating a visual legacy of their accomplishments truly exemplifies the values of service and community engagement.
Rachel Collins, the manager for Jack’s of Monticello, embodies the spirit of community engagement and compassion, making her a worthy nominee for Citizen of the Year. Her unwavering dedication to helping others is evident through her efforts to support hurricane victims by sending jugs of water, demonstrating her commitment to those in need during times of crisis. Additionally, Rachel organized a Free Meal Wall at Jack’s, providing nourishment and comfort to community members facing hardship and food insecurity. Her collaborative partnerships with local organizations to assist families during Christmas further showcase her tireless advocacy for those in need.
