4-H’ers Attend Fall Forum at Rock Eagle Center in December

By Leigha Perkins

Four Jasper County Senior 4-H’ers attended the statewide Fall Forum conference at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in December.

Those in attendance included Jayden Wojcik, Leigha Perkins, Zoey Parks, and Shanae McClain along with Dino Malloy, Monroe County 4-H’er (pictured left to right).

This weekend event started early for our Northeast District Senior Board members, Leigha and Shanae, as they celebrated the holidays with the rest of the district board on Friday night by exchanging Secret Santa gifts and making cookies for state 4-H staff and Northeast District 4-H staff and volunteers.

The event was officially kicked off on Saturday with district assemblies, led by the district boards, to call for attendance of each county and recognize those who competed in the State Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging contest and finalists for National Conference.

Immediately after, 4-H’ers watched the new State Board of Directors perform their Christmas skit “4-H Doesn’t Come From A Store” before being dismissed for workshop rotations. Instead of participating in workshops, Shanae, Leigha, and Jayden were able to attend class sessions for Level II Teen Leader Training.

With this new Level II certification, 4-H’ers are able to serve in leadership roles at the district and state levels, such as serving as Teen Leaders at Cloverleaf Camp in the summer.

4-H’ers were also given the option to participate in the exhibit Share Fair this weekend by making an informational tri-board on a topic of their choice.

Zoey entered an exhibit about the history of rubber gloves in health care, and Jayden entered one about the March on Washington. Their tri-boards correlated with their project work in the Health and History projects, respectively.

After workshops, 4-H’ers were treated to an amazing show from the Georgia 4-H performing arts group Clovers & Company. Among this group of talented youth was Jasper County Junior 4-H’er Addison Cagle who got to show off her skilled dance moves! The night ended with a casual Hawaiian-dressed dance and board games at the Georgia EMC Senior Pavilion.

The following morning, the closing assembly featured guest speaker Dr. James Edwards from the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development at UGA, and 4-H’ers were dismissed after saying with the 4-H pledge.
