City Lifts Building Moratorium

A quorum of Monticello City Council members met briefly Tuesday to approve the permitting fee schedule and lift the moratorium on building permits.

J. Brett Haynes of Falcon Design suggested revisions to the permitting fee schedule in accordance to current building standards. Council members had a few questions to ask of the consultant.

The current building permit fees, instituted by the county, include the following: residential house at 0.60 per heated square foot and 0.20 per unheated; guest house $720; garage, barn outbuilding $150 with concrete, electrical, and plumbing, each an additional $50; swimming pool in ground $250 or above ground $150; solar permit $250; land disturbance $65 per acre; electrical reconnection $75; demolition $75; general electrical $75, general plumbing $75; and driveway/culvert $75.

Council members Tim Womack, Doug Currie, Gail Harrell, and Jenny Murphy approved a new fee schedule that includes building permit fees, permit plan review fees, miscellaneous trade permits and fees, development permitting and review fees. Also included was the addition of a bond of $500 per linear foot and a $250 utility fee.

The vote to remove the moratorium on building permits was also 4-0.
