Lady Cougars Go 3-1 Recently

LADY COUGARS CELEBRATE WIN & KYLEE KECK

It was yet another busy week for the Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars basketball team.

Coach Michael Wilson’s team began the stretch with a convincing 77-40 win against Mount de Sales on Jan. 29 at home. Marissa Holder scored 38 points to go with 14 rebounds, eight steals, and seven assists.

Senior Kylee Keck added 15 points along with seven boards, two assists and a block while Sarah Ellen Stroud had 14 points with seven assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Emily Whitwell finished with eight points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while Taylor Jenkins added two points, four rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist.

That set up a big region showdown with Stratford Academy last Friday on the road in Macon.

The Lady Cougars outscored the host Lady Eagles in the first and second quarters with Stratford winning the third quarter by a slim one-point margin. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Lady Eagles used a 28-19 run to hold on for a 70-68 win.

It was the first region loss of the season for Piedmont.

Stroud had 29 points with five rebounds and five assists and Keck scored 20 points with seven boards and two assists. Holder finished with 18 points, 12 boards, seven assists, four steals and two blocks.

The Lady Cougars stepped out of region play with a home game against Windsor on Monday of this week. Piedmont took an easy 65-17 win.

Holder had 28 points, including eight 3-pointers. Keck added 19 points (five 3-pointers) and Stroud scored eight points. The Lady Cougars were easily in charge 47-9 at halftime.

Piedmont added another region win on Tuesday of this week defeating John Milledge 77-48 at home. The Lady Cougars (21-4, 7-1) jumped out to a 25-14 lead after the first quarter on their way to the win.

It was yet another standout effort by Holder who finished with 41 points, including 10 3-pointers. Stroud added 22 while Keck finished with eight.

The Lady Cougars close out the regular season Friday at home against First Presbyterian at 6 p.m.
