MAT COUGARS’ REGION TITLE

Winning region titles never gets old for the Piedmont Academy wrestling program. The Mat Cougars won another region trophy last week, their third in a row, with several first-place individual finishes before a packed gym at home. Piedmont is now preparing for the state tournament this Friday and Saturday in Gainesville. Leading the way at region for the Mat Cougars were Austin Anglin (106), Caleb Benton (144), Colt Leddon (150), Daniel Joseph (157), Jamus Wingate (165), Noah Doolittle (175), Trenton Jones (190), Nelson Hooberry (120) and Braxton Floyd (215). “We have a great opportunity at state for another top four finish,” Coach Nick Meadows said. The state tournament will be at Riverside Military. In addition, Mat Cougar wrestlers Scott Swann, Wingate, Benton and Leddon each recently recorded their 100th varsity victory.
