Silvey to Lead Cougar Volleyball Program

When talking about volleyball, Emma Silvey lets it be known she has a passion for the sport.

The new Piedmont Academy volleyball coach played the sport for eight years including her freshman year in college at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. A career ending injury to her meniscus led to surgery and began her path to coaching the sport.

“I’ve always loved coaching and volleyball is my passion so I’m very excited and thankful for this opportunity,” she said. “I’m 22 years old in my senior year of college finishing up my bachelors degree. Coaching has become a huge passion of mine in the last couple years and brought back my love for volleyball after I had to stop playing because of my injury. I have not been a head coach before but I was the assistant coach for Piedmont last year so this will be my second year with the program.”

Silvey hopes to continue building on what the Volley Cougars accomplished last season.

“I love the school and the girls,” she said “We had a great season last year and I am excited to get into the gym and get to work. My plans for the program are to not only coach the girls in volleyball but also help them navigate through life and help them learn life lessons outside of the volleyball court. I’m hoping to win a region championship this upcoming season and to also help the girls reach their goals for the season. Volleyball is a great sport and it’s been my passion ever since I was 11 so I’m excited to give back to the sport I love so much.”

Silvey played at Morgan County High School in nearby Madison where she earned All-Region honors three times as a sophomore, junior and senior. She helped Morgan to a 36-6 record her senior year while finishing as the AAA runner-up.
