JUBILEE FUN

The Jasper Jubilee was held Saturday with a wide variety of vendors offering food, prizes, rocks and minerals, the Busy Bees, Advocare, Thirty-One, and many more.

The fun began with a 5K road race on Saturday that was basically the Deer Dash backwards, and when everyone had finished it was time for the flag raising by American Legion Post 110, and the national anthem.

DJ Scottie Spence with Just4Fun Radio got the tunes rolling and kept them going all day, making announcements as needed and keeping things moving. He stopped for a while Saturday morning while DeVaughn Manning wooed the crowd by playing the saxophone.

The Jasper County Humane Society began the day with yoga on the square led by Sonya Jordan.

A hot dog eating contest was a highlight of the afternoon with Jennifer Gantt winning the contest. It was not as highly competitive as last year when the winner ate 13 dogs.

The 50-50 raffle was won by Natalie Fuller, and all proceeds from the raffle are going to charity.

A reptile show in the Visitor’s Center was a hit with young and old. Tortoises, snakes, geckos and lizards were fun to look at and touch.

A sheriff’s office training simulator was interesting for sure.
